Bath Soft

Bath Soft Cheese Co is an award-winning fromagerie nestled on the outskirts of Bath, England. The Padfield family have been happily milking cows on the land there for four generations. Proudly organic, they are careful to produce their milk and cheese in such a way that protects the natural world and lets every farm animal feel the sun on its back.

Every morning, their herd of mostly Holstein Friesian cows provides fresh milk in their brand new milking parlour. All of their cheeses are made using old-fashioned manual methods which they believe gives the cheese more flavour, and the fromagerie has gone from strength to strength, producing an impressive line of artisanal, English cheeses.

The most famous of their offerings is the award winning Bath Soft. This cheese dates back to the time of Admiral Lord Nelson who in 1801 was sent some by his father as a gift. It was recorded that Nelson’s sweetheart was ‘gratified’ by the flavour of this cheese. Well-known in the 18th and 19th centuries, veteran cheesemaker Graham Padfield tracked down the recipe for Bath Cheese in an old grocer’s recipe book, and the rest is history.

Winner of Supreme Champion at the 2019 Artisan Cheese Awards, Bath Soft is a full-flavoured, soft Brie-style cheese notable for its unusual square shape that is true to the original recipe. Once cut into it reveals a silken interior, offering creamy notes of mushroom with a hint of citrus. Pair with your favourite champagne or sweet fruit puree for a delectable match.
